A Draft of the petition to be sent to Hon Chief Justice of India
To,
Mr. Justice. K.G. Balakrishnan
The Hon’ble Chief justice of India , New Delhi
SUBJECT: REQUESTING LEGAL REMEDIES CONCERNING A DALIT STUDENT, A VICTIM OF ABETED SUICIDE FUELLED BY GROSS SOCIAL EXCLUSION AND CASTE-BASED DISCRIMINATION.
Sir,
Most respectfully, we do submit as follows:
That Mr.Ajay Shri Chandra, an IInd year student of Integrated PhD. Course at IISC, Bangalore (Indian Institute of Sciences), committed suicide on 27th of August, Monday at around 6 a.m. in his designated hostel room.
-That it was not a mere suicide as suggested but abetted suicide.
-That Ajay belongs to Scheduled Caste category of Andhra Pradesh due to which he was subjected to social exclusion and discrimination even though he was very studious and had consistently been securing more than 80% all his life.
-That his guide, Dr.Ajit Kumar and Co-Guide, Dr.Raghavendra Gadkar used to insult, abuse, humiliate and discriminate on the basis of caste. In one course, Dr. Raghavendra awarded only a “D” grade which was undervalued purposely to demoralise him.
-That he suffered depression and mental trauma of the treatment he was prearranged. He was isolated and was completely ignored by fellow students and professors.
-That the media reported his guide had asked some student to inquire regarding Ajay’s whereabouts. When that student went to his room, the door was locked from the inside. When he did not respond to several people’s attempt to wake him up, the door was broken open with the help of security guards only to find him hanging.
-That there was a 7 page suicide note found at the room he was hanging in which had mysteriously disappeared police records.
-That the police had taken custody of the body to conduct post-mortem.
-That his parents were informed only after two days of the incident.
-That police had handed over the body along with only a two page suicide note.
-That Mr.Govind Raj, a non-teaching staff in the college (mobile no. 09945346077) and Prof.Jay Bhaskaran know all these facts.
-That many students of the same batch left the institution soon after the tragic incident.
-That no proper investigation has been done about the same. No arrests have been made.
-That most of the dalit students have been facing such instances of social exclusion from upper caste professors.
It is humbly requested to consider these facts on a broader perspective and initiate necessary legal action, inquiry and investigation to arrest the culprits and provide appropriate remedy to the victim’s family and to provide an adequate forum to complain the occurrence of such incidents so as to avoid adverse conditions resulting from caste-atrocities and social exclusion. Also, to constitute a commission of inquiry to study the situation and matter related there with.
Thanking You,
Your Sincerely,
Sanjay
